Now as we all know, Linux is fun to use. It’s also true that the programmers like to have a little fun of their own. While some of these are Ubuntu specific, some of them are also true for any distribution. Let’s explore, shall we?

Fichey just launched this afternoon. It is a flash based site that, like StumbleUpon, allows you to browse through popular current websites. But it isn’t a bookmarking service - instead it shows sites from a specified date that were popular on Del.icio.us, Digg, Downfly, Reddit and StumbleUpon.

The sites are shown as a jpeg and pulled into Fichey’s flash interface, which consists of nothing more than a box that hovers over the image. The box contains contols letting you move to new sites, back to old ones, or to change the date or source. You can click on any site image and it will pull it up in an iframe to interact with it.

As you are looking at sites Fichey is busy caching additional ones so you can quickly scroll through new ones. Don’t be too hard on it if it’s slow right now, I’m not sure they want a lot of attention on it yet.

It is a fun way to blow some time reading interesting content. And if you’re wondering at the inclusion of the relatively unknown Downfly in the list of popular bookmark services, here’s why: it is a service created by them, as a quick whois lookup on the domain name confirmed.

Newton, inventive maker of the ultrathin, wireless MoGo Mouse has added a new variation to its game, called the MoGo Mouse X54 Pro. Just like its Bluetooth-utilizing progenitor, the X54, the new model is a credit card-thin optical mouse meant to be stored in your open ExpressCard 54 slot, but the Pro version extends functionality by rocking double-duty as a wireless presentation remote. The mouse has a small laser pointer embedded in its front, and the top panel includes buttons for navigating through your slides, blanking screens, and switching the laser on and off. It also, of course, does mousing tasks. Available in August for £54.99, or around $112.

Asus appears to be adding a new laptop called the F8S to its fairly crowded lineup (although we’re almost certain this one isn’t gigantic and made of wood). The new model is a Santa Rosa-based, 14.1-inch widescreen offering, built around an Intel PM965 chipset, with a Core 2 Duo T7300 processor, up to 4GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and either an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600, or NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics chipset. Word on the street is that the F8S will additionally sport 802.11a/g/n, a TV tuner, built-in webcam, fingerprint reader, and will hit for around €2000. Stay tuned for more info as we get it.

Did you know the Toyko Apple store’s elevator has no buttons? It’s designed to just stop at every floor — it’s just simpler that way. Apparently. (Oook.) This tidbit and many more as the Wall St. Journal gets granular on Apple’s (read: Steve Jobs’s) long-waged war on buttons. Won’t someone please think of the children? LG’s Xnote lineup essentially has all of its bases covered with regard to sizes, as it includes laptops ranging from ultraportable to ultra-ginormous — the latter of which was recently showcased at SEK 2007. This 19-inch behemoth likely required photos to be taken from several steps back, but aside from its awkwardly large footprint, it sports a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of RAM, NVIDIA’s 256MB GeForce 8600M GS graphics set, a 320GB hard drive, dual-layer DVD burner, 802.11a/b/g, audio in / out, a number of USB ports, and a built-in flash card reader for good measure. No word on a release date or an estimated price, but be sure and click through for a few more shots of this beast on display.
