It wouldn’t be a legitimate discontinuation rumor without an incredibly blurry picture as proof, now would it? In yet another disputable case of “is the Xbox 360 Core model on its way out,” a certain Target employee apparently snapped a picture of horrific quality showing the “Xbox 360 Core Hardware Sys” with a “Discontinued” status. The shot was reportedly taken from one of the store’s oh-so-knowledgeable PDAs, and while there’s obviously no confirmation either way just yet, this tidbit does substantiate the questionable Best Buy slip. Ah well, it’s not like we won’t have yet another iteration coming up soon to ease the pain if this proves accurate.

If successful, the deal would help Lenovo quickly capture market share in a region where it is ranked sixth and is barely profitable.

So what happens when someone releases a functional but extremely slow NES emulator? Two of the finest iPhone hackers spend all night re-writing the thing to make it blazing fast and include multi-touch support.

Scrybe, the online/offline calendar and organizer, has closed their series A round of financing from Adobe Systems Incorporated and LMKR. In what is becoming an annoying trend, the company is not disclosing the size of the round.
You’ll probably recognize the company from the somewhat viral product demo that swept the blogosphere last October. Since then they’ve been through a private and public beta.
Scrybe is a Flash-based organizational and productivity tool that works both online and offline. It consists of multiple calendar management, to do lists, web clip bookmarklet, contact list (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail or Outlook importing), and The system operates offline by caching your changes and then uploading when the system reconnects. Zimbra and Google Gears provide similar online/offline products.
The driving principle behind the application is usability. Scrybe’s main selling point is that the application retains the context of the data that you’re working with by “zooming” instead of flipping to the data. One example is the calendar. The cells of the calendar expand and contract as you edit a week, day, or hour more closely while still showing the details of the surrounding days. See the extended video below for more details.

The good news is that the official Windows Mobile 6 Professional update for the Treo 750 is just around the corner; the bad news, though, is that you probably can’t have it yet unless you’re lucky enough to live in one particular corner of the world. Following countless incognito shots of WM6-sporting 750s in the wild, an imminent official announcement was pretty much a foregone conclusion — though we admittedly never suspected Australia would be the first to get the hookup. Specifically, customers of the Australian branch of Hutchison 3 will be able to download the update free of charge starting mid-month, with “other customers” following on in September. Whether “other customers” includes AT&T is unclear, but we’re keeping our fingers tightly crossed.

With all the price cutting that’s been going on here in the US, it’s no surprise that our allies to the north are seeing drops of their own on the Xbox 360. According to Microsoft, Canadians scouting one of its consoles can now snag the Premium package for $399.99 CDN, the Core for $299.99 CDN, or the Elite for $499.99 CDN. Notably, those who have an unhealthy appetite for all things Halo can look for the Halo 3-themed iteration to land next month for a respectable $449.99 CDN. So there ya have it Canucks, now don’t say Redmond isn’t lookin’ out for you, too.
[Thanks, Matt]

How long can Apple’s set-top-box remain Steve Jobs’ hobby? Here’s a list of what’s missing, and where the AppleTV might be heading. “I get the feeling that Apple has not unleashed the full potential of the AppleTV because its ecosystem, like the one developed for the iPod, isn’t fully in place.”
