“Hey man, check out my $4000 combo iPod dock / Class A amp playing a 128kbps MP3 file! Listen to that brittle high-end… it’s like you’re in the room with the computer that compressed this file!”

It’s been a little while since we’ve seen a new X-Fi device from Creative, but it looks like the company’s now set to expand it’s audio-enhancing empire a bit further, with its new X30 iPod dock apparently nearly ready for a release. While there’s unfortunately no wireless streaming going on here, the dock will at least let you hook your iPod up to a stereo or pair of speakers, as well as a TV thanks to the dock’s s-video port, with that much-hyped X-Fi technology promising to make everything sound better than ever. Look for this one to set you back just under €80 (or about $125) when it hits Europe next month — no word on a release ’round these parts just yet.

At least that’s the only way we can explain the stealth bomber look on this AS-IP300 iPod dock from Kenwood. You can buy a black version to complete the effect, but don’t expect to get much out of these 1.9W stereo speakers. The best news is that you’re looking at a 95 Euro ($140-ish) pricetag for the unit, which has us rather ambivilant as to if or when this’ll be getting a Stateside release.

Yeah, the whole igloo comparison loses some steam once you peek this thing from the side, but when glancing it head-on, we can’t help but be overcome with imagery of our childhood days spent in the plains of Greenland. Unfortunately, this thing’s ability to conjure up said memories is probably its standout feature — well, aside from the RF remote that enables users to browse iPod content right on its screen (shown after the break). Outside of that, you’ll find a totally average speaker setup consisting of twin one-inch tweeters and three-inch woofers along with a set of touch-sensitive controls atop the device itself. Reportedly, the iBoom JukeBox is slated to further saturate the iPod speaker system market this Spring for $199.99.

Just in case the HomeDock hasn’t been revamped and slightly renamed enough already, DLO is busting out yet another in the line and throwing the all-too-trendy “HD” moniker in there for good measure. As with most every other alternative already on the market, the HomeDock HD offers up 720p / 1080i upscaling and gives your iPod an easy way to output content via HDMI. You’ll also find an optical digital audio output, a USB port, an auxiliary input and S-Video / composite outputs. DLO claims that the enhanced on-TV interface will just melt your heart (more or less, anyway), and the bundled remote will keep you firmly planted on the sofa when flipping through clips. Mum’s the word on pricing at the moment, but feel free to take a second and check out this thing’s backside after the break.

Yeah, yeah, we know — another iP** dock — but this is actually one of the first docking audio speakers approved to work with the iPhone without either dropping into airplane mode or assaulting your ears with janky GSM signal noise (it also docks regular old iPods, of course). To boot, it charges the thing and has incoming call support — more than slightly mitigated by the fact that you still have to actually remove the phone from the dock to take the call, a drawback the Altec Lansing rep said was because Apple neglected to include support for passing call audio across the docking interface. Still, if you happen to use your iPhone as jukebox at home or work, you can pick up this quite decent-sounding speaker system in February if it’s worth $200 to you.

It’s not like we haven’t seen miDocks before, but Polk Audio is enjoying the spotlight at CES and releasing a trio of newcomers to mingle with your iPod. Up first is the miDock Studio (pictured after the jump), which takes a subtle hint from the late iPod Hi-Fi in the design department and features a pair of 3.25-inch drivers and the ability to operate on AC power or from eight C-cell batteries. The miDock 10 (shown above), on the other hand, is entirely more suited for being hoisted over your left shoulder when pouncing down the street, while the diminutive Portfolio can be folded up for easy transport and operated on four AA cells for over eight hours. Notably, the Studio and 10 also sport USB inputs for direct computer connections, and the trio will run you $229.95, $179.99 and $119.95 in order of mention.Continue reading Polk Audio intros miDock Studio, 10 and Portfolio for your iPod

We’ve seen some fairly snazzy aftermarket iPod docks before, but Wadia Digital is hoping to lure a few C-notes from the wallets of bona fide audiophiles with its iTransport. This Made for iPod device reportedly bypasses the PMP’s “internal D/A conversion and output stage,” which enables the music to stream through “clean and unadulterated.” Hailed as the “market’s first digital player dock to retrieve a direct digital signal from an iPod,” it relies on a S/PDIF digital audio out (as well as analog outs) and even includes a set of component outputs for video. Notably, the iPhone and iPod touch will work here too, but unless you’ve got some mighty fine loudspeakers (or cans) that can take advantage of such clarity, we’d suggest holding tight to your $349 when it ships next month.
