You might recall The Onion breaking the news back in October that the Apple backlash was set to begin as of today, and if The Onion says it, it’s got to be true. Right? Sure, the Cupertino fruit company’s been riding high as of late, but if America’s Finest News Source has it, we’ll all be looking at our iDevices like bellbottoms and Betamaxes soon enough.

We were just wondering something. Now that you’ve adapted to the brave new world presented by the possibility of a $44.6 Billion Microsoft acquisition of Yahoo!, what do you call the new entity? You’ve already thrown out a few ideas in the comments so let’s put it to a vote.

So while the iPhone and Apple TV got shiny new firmware updates and new features for free today, iPod touch owners will have to lay out $20 to get Mail, Weather, Stocks, Notes, and Maps — five apps the iPhone’s had since day one. That seems like a raw deal to us — but then again, we’re up to our necks in handheld devices that can check email and take notes. So what’s it going to be, iPod touch owners — will you be laying down a Jackson or what?

Of all the weeks to have a major outage of your online gaming service, the holiday and vacation weeks of Christmas and New Years may have to be the worst — which Microsoft has learned all to well over the last ten days. We know you’ve heard plenty about it here at Engadget — but that’s really only because Xbox Live has had such a solid track record over the years, and we’re all just as surprised as you. But while it’s perfectly clear users have been seeing these issues, it’s still unclear exactly how “intermittent” those issues really are. Care to let us know how you’ve fared in our wholly unscientific poll?

It’s never a bad thing when you can get good gear for less money, but we totally feel the pain of all those that spent hours or days waiting in line to buy an iPhone for $600 only to have that price cut by a third within the first few months. Then again, we know it’s a little bit of a contradiction: c’mon, chances are if you bought an iPhone really early on you probably didn’t care too much about the price anyway. Or maybe you did — now’s your chance to sound off.
P.S. -Apple offers a 10 day price guarantee — you knew that right? If you snagged an iPhone in the past ten days (we’ve also heard two weeks), get some of that money back!

This morning’s announcement about Acer’s acquisition of Gateway left us wondering about the fate of Gateway’s Holstein branding in the hands of Taiwan’s Acer. Those spots were once proudly synonymous with Gateway’s unexpectedly low-tech, Iowa roots — an idea worn thin after the dot com bust. So what’s your take, bring out the sledgehammer or spare that heifer for another day?

Since the Times unmasked the fake Valley’s most notorious fake rockstar CEO, many thought that without the mystery, interest in FSJ would fizzle. Not unlike a really good, impossible magic trick handed over to Penn and Teller. So, are you still reading?
