It’s finally happened, a 32GB SATA II SSD for laptops has just dipped below $100 ($159 list, minus $60 rebate)… with a catch. The SSD in question is the 32GB OCZ Core Series SATA II — an SSD which could actually be slower and consume more power than your current, aged spinner depending upon your usage habits. But man, 99 bucks — that’s tempting.

digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/xbox/Xbox_360_HD_DVD_drives_going_for_e9_99_in_Ireland’; And you thought $49.99 was cheap. Word on the street has it that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on, which has been seen as slightly less valuable since Toshiba pulled the plug on the once mighty red format, has stooped to €9.99 across the pond at GameStop (among other locales). For those not savvy on the absurd depreciation of the US dollar, we’re talking $15.47 — and that’s with a Media Center remote bundled in, too. We’re totally straight-faced when we say that’s actually not a half bad deal if you’re a fan of the media already out there, but the parsimonious among us are definitely waiting for these to come bundled with our favorite cereals before pulling the trigger.

Sure, The Sharper Image is bankrupt, but that’s no reason to avoid this once in a lifetime opportunity to buy the company as it goes under. As you’re undoubtedly already aware, The Sharper Image invented the idea of ions with the semi-functional Ionic Breeze air purifier, but did you know that it also led the movement to call anything with a stereo minijack “iPod-compatible?” That’s history, folks. And now that the board of directors has put the company on the block with the share price down to 23 cents and the goal of selling by the end of next month, you could conceivably be America’s next massage-chair kingpin for just $3.6M — what’s to lose? We’ll even throw in the disgraced executive team, a $25 value! Operators are standing by!

Truthfully, we reckon this moment is inevitable. With HD DVD hung out to dry by everyone and their long lost cousin, it’s simply a matter of time before players are being traded for rides on the carousel. Nevertheless, reports are already circulating that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 add-on drive could sink to $49.99 in the not-too-distant future, which may actually make it worth grabbing for the very respectable library of HD DVD titles already out there. Whatever you do, don’t pay full price for this thing.

Sure, it’s fun to carry around three, four, or even five devices at a time — and now thanks to a new promotion from Palm, you can quickly up the number of gadgets hanging from your utility belt by two. Currently, if you purchase the PDA / smartphone-maker’s $299 Palm TX, they’ll throw in a $99 Zire Z22 for free. We’re guessing those storage crates full of unsold product are probably starting to crowd Ed Colligan’s basement.

It’s not like there has been any shortage of deals on HD DVD hardware over the past few months or anything, but now that Toshiba (and almost everyone else on the planet) has officially yanked support for the format, prices are beginning to plummet en masse. First on the docket is the HD-A3 at Circuit City, which now sits at just $99.99 and comes with seven free titles, two of which are 300 and Bourne Identity. So yeah, if you’ve been waiting for this moment to snap up the failed format for cheap, hop on in — but if we were betting souls, we’d say holding out just a wee bit longer would actually be in your wallet’s best interest.

Just days after the 80GB PlayStation 3 hit the online marketplace, GameStop seems to be clearing out the defunct 20GB iteration for the low, low price of… $449.99. Yeah, that’s not nearly as low as we’d like to see either, but it is still $50 lower than your next available option (that’d be the 60GB flavor). Still, we’re sure these things will sell like hotcakes for one reason or another, but unless you simply must have a PS3 today regardless of HDD size, we’re just not feelin’ the value here.
